The MI-SBTDC provides no cost one-to-one counsel, low cost education workshops, and market research/information. Business counsel is offered in the areas of financial management, marketing, human resources, operations, and information technology. Topics for workshops and trainings include "nuts and bolts" for starting a business, market research, writing a business plan, understanding financials, legal issues, marketing, selling, patents & copyrights, new product development, and accessing financing.

SCORE provides free business counseling and low cost business workshops to business entrepreneurs and existing small business owners. SCORE volunteers are working and retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders who share their wisdom and lessons learned in business.
 
SCORE is headquartered in Washington, DC with SCORE chapters located nationwide. The SCORE Grand Rapids chapter is dedicated to the growth and success of small business in Kent County through its alliances with various area chambers of commerce.
